Dealer Rules

Standing rules for the dealer are generally the same across most Playtech releases of the classic card game. The virtual dealers usually must draw to 16 and stand on soft 17 rather than hitting. In games that use hole cards, the virtual dealer would check for blackjack provided their exposed card is an ace or a ten. Some games like Duel 21 do not support the peek rule, though.

Blackjack Odds

Blackjack odds are standardized across the majority of Playtech blackjack releases. No 6-to-5 versions are available so far but this is not something to cry about considering this reduced payout leads to an increase of the house advantage. The vast majority of the variations offer the standard bonus odds of 3 to 2. Select few games pay even money for player blackjacks, including Blackjack Switch.

Pair Splitting Rules

Pair splitting rules usually work to the advantage of the player, who has the option to resplit to four hands in some instances. This is not possible in games like Duel 21 where doubling following a split is unavailable. The rest of the suite generally offers this rule, however. Resplitting aces is usually disallowed and so is drawing to split aces.

Doubling Rules

Doubling rules are just as liberal as those for splitting pairs. In many games, including Blackjack Surrender, you can exercise this move on any starting two-card hand. Few games allow this move only on hard totals of 9 through 11 including. Doubling after a split is normally available.

Insurance

Insurance is offered in the vast majority of the online blackjack games Playtech has released over the years. This rule comes into play whenever the dealer’s exposed card is an ace. The player declines or accepts insurance by posting an extra bet to the amount of half of their original stake. The dealer then peeks under their ace to check for a blackjack and pays the player at odds of 2 to 1 if their hole card is a ten. The original bet loses in this case.

If the dealer does not have a blackjack, the round continues as normal but the player loses their insurance wager. Insurance is grossly disadvantageous to the player and should always be declined. If you do not feel like dealing with this annoying bet against each dealer ace, you can deactivate insurance for the session to stop the prompts.

Late Surrender

Late surrender is one of the most advantageous rules you could possibly wish for in online blackjack. Not many variations available for online play offer it but some of those created by Playtech do. This rule saves you from losing money with bad starting totals when the dealer is in a powerful position.

Late Surrender allows you to fold the bad hand and get half of your bet back after the dealer peeks for blackjack. In some Playtech games like Blackjack Surrender you can exercise this move with any starting two-card total.

Charlie Rules

Charlie rules are available in some Playtech blackjack variations, including Blackjack Surrender where the seven-card Charlie is in place. Under certain conditions, the player can draw seven cards without exceeding 21. When this happens, the player’s hand is an automatic winner at even-money odds regardless of the dealer’s total unless it is a blackjack. The rule is in place on split hands as well.

Side Bets in Playtech Blackjack Games

One of the newer releases, All Bets Blackjack, is particularly impressive because it features five popular groups of side wagers. We examine these in more depth below. Perfect Pairs

Perfect Pairs is easily the most popular side bet in the entire blackjack universe. It wins when the player’s or the dealer’s starting two-card total consists of mixed (6 to 1), colored (12 to 1) or perfectly matching cards in terms of rank and suit (25 to 1).

Top 3 Bets

• 5 to 1 for a dealer busting with 8/8/8 of the same color

All drawing blackjack games have a Seven Card Charlie. This means that if a player draws to a total of seven cards and does not bust, the player will automatically win the hand.

There are several playing options on Playtech blackjack software. These options include the ability to turn off animations for a faster game, change the speed of the deal, changing card sizes, and turning off warnings. These warnings include software pop ups that will ask you if you are sure that you want to split, hit, or stay in certain situations.

All Playtech blackjack games have a minimum bet of $2 and a maximum bet of $100.

21 Duel (96.92%)

21 Duel is a unique blackjack game. Players may choose between one player and three player tables. A player makes a bet but will need to have at least the amount of the bet in their stack because the player must double the original bet if they play the hand. Players are dealt two cards, with one up and one down. Two cards are dealt face up in the middle of the table. The dealer is then dealt two cards face down.

The player then has the choice of folding or playing. If the player folds they lose their original bet and a new hand is dealt. If the player decides to play, they will pick one of the two cards on the table to use with their up card. The player will then have the option of hitting or standing. If the player hits, their down card is flipped up and that is their double down or hit card. The player must stand at that point as there are no hits after the player’s down card is included in the hand. If the player stands, the player’s down card is discarded and does not play.

Once the player has acted, the dealer then acts. The dealer chooses one of their down cards and places it face up. The dealer then chooses which card on the two card board to combine with their up card. The dealer stands on all 17’s. If the dealer does not have 17 or better, the dealer will flip up their second down card and use it to make a three card hand. The dealer must have 13 to qualify. The player must beat the dealer and ties push. If the dealer does not qualify, the hand is a push. The dealer will qualify in almost every hand. If the player makes a blackjack, the player is paid even money.

21 Duel Side Bet (58.9%)

21 Duel has a side bet called 2UP. The player will combine their up card with the two board cards. If a player makes a pair, they are paid 3-1. Three of a kind pays 20-1.

Classic Blackjack (99.57%)

Playtech offers a classic blackjack game. The game can be played as a single or multi player game. The rules are:

• Play up to five hands in single player mode
• Dealer stands on all 17’s
• Double down on any first two cards

Perfect Pair Blackjack is a standard blackjack game with a side bet pertaining to the type of pair that a player may get dealt. As always, the side bet is optional. The rules for Perfect Pair Blackjack are:

• Double down after split
• Split up to 4 hands
• One card only on split aces

Pontoon (99.68%)

Pontoon is an Australian version of blackjack. Both dealer cards are dealt face down in Pontoon. A Pontoon is an ace and a ten value card and is the best possible hand. When splitting aces, if a player receives a ten value card, the hand is treated as a Pontoon. A Five Card Trick is the second best hand. A Five Card Trick is a five card hand 21 or less. A player must hit if they have 15 or less. Playtech Pontoon rules are:

• Six decks
• Dealer hits soft 17
• Double down on any combination of cards
• If a double down produces a hand less than 15 another card must be drawn
• Hit after double down
• Split pairs other than aces up to three hands
• Double down after split
• Dealer wins all ties

Progressive Blackjack (99.57%)

Progressive Blackjack is a standard blackjack game with a $1 side bet. The side bet goes into a progressive jackpot. A player wins the jackpot by receiving four aces of the same suit in one hand. Four aces of any suit will pay the player 10% of the jackpot. The side bet is optional. The blackjack play rules are the same as other games:
